Love Mill Creek is a collaboration between the Mill Creek MetroParks Foundation and hundreds of partner organizations and individuals in cultivating philanthropic support for the Mill Creek MetroParks. Our goal is to develop $20 million in combined capital improvements (projects), and endowment support through our Legacy Fund for Mill Creek MetroParks by 2030.
Besides its importance to the social and cultural threads of our community, Mill Creek MetroParks plays a significant role in the economic health of our region. According to the National Recreation and Park Association's 2020 report entitled The Economic Impact of Local Parks: An Examination of the Economic Impacts of Operations and Capital Spending by Local Park and Recreation Agencies on the U.S. Economy, local public park and recreation agencies in the United States, generated $218 billion in economic activity and supported almost 1.3 million jobs that boosted labor income by more than $68 billion from their operations and capital spending in 2019. Here in Ohio, parks and recreation accounts for 43,306 jobs which produce a labor income of $2,160,222,027, with a value-added of $3,419,555,293, resulting in $7,047,862,193.
Since 2018, we have raised $5.3 million in donations for capital improvements, and endowment funds for Mill Creek MetroParks. These funds raised have been utilized to achieve the following capital improvement projects:
